By protecting and improving our environment, the communities where we do business and the students we serve, Sodexo makes every day a better day and every tomorrow a better tomorrow.

Sustainability Initiatives

Your Sodexo Campus Dining Team is dedicated to sustainability.  We know we can all work together to make a positive impact right here at Panola College. In addition to the many initiatives we take on as a company, we have implemented the following programs specific to Panola College.

Waste Reduction Efforts

Waste Reduction

Our team is committed to reducing waste wherever we can. The use of Chix towels, using laundered table linens, and issuing employees uniform caps instead of disposable hairnets whenever possible helps keep waste down. Electronic communication is utilized wherever possible, and our team is always looking for new ideas to reduce energy & water waste.

Xpressnap Dispensers

Xpressnap Dispensers save energy and waste.  The napkins are made of 100% recycled paper and the dispenser will encourage customers to take (and waste) fewer napkins. Energy is saved because less power is used to recycle paper products than to create them from virgin material.

APEX Dishwashing System

APEX combines technology and products designed to save water and energy, minimize the impact of products on the environment, and has a built-in method of measuring results. The APEX management approach uses a tablet PC and wireless technology to communicate with the system’s controller to download, process and analyze data to establish each foodservice operation’s “rack-to-guest ratio.” By monitoring and improving this ratio, the system helps reduce the amount of water and energy used at each facility, and improve total operational efficiency.

Recycling Fryer Oil into Biofuel

Sodexo does not use trans fats in cooking, but that doesn't mean we don't use fryer oil. In partnership with Terra Renewal, our campus fryer oil is recycled into biodiesel. This helps provide a renewable, sustainable source of alternative fuel for transportation.

No-Fry Fridays

How much energy can you save by not having fries and a hamburger? What healthy fast food will you pick instead? No-Fry Fridays help save energy by reducing energy & oil use, as well as giving students the chance to try something different even if it's a rush to get to class. Menu items like wraps, pasta, & entrée salads help reduce energy use several ways; besides the energy use directly associated with the fryers, the air conditioning required to keep the building comfortable is reduced.

Reusable Cup Discount

The environment and your pocketbook win! Get your approved Go Green! reusable cup to purchase coffee on campus and save 15 cents off every time in any location. You are also welcome to use it for fountain drinks although there is no discount program available at this time.

Bamboo Ware

Our catering customers are offered the choice of a compostable, ecologically friendly disposable service for their events. Bamboo service allows a durable, attractive event with the convenience of disposable dishes, and is made from a sustainable resource.

Local / Seasonal / Responsible Sourcing

Local Farms

We work hard to get as many ingredients locally as possible. Our professionally-trained team creates our menus to take advantage of the fresh fruits and vegetables that are naturally in season.

Going forward by giving back.  We are proud to feature 100% Transfair, Fair Trade USA certified aspretto coffee and 100% USDA certified organic and ethically sourced Numi teas. Everything that touches the product is green, from the 10% post-consumer fiber cups to the renewable resource stirrers to the fair trade sugar wrapped in recyclable paper and printed with vegetable dye.
